Merrill is a seasoned Licensed Clinical Social Worker with nearly three decades of experience in mental health and counseling. Merrill earned his Master of Social Work (MSW) from Colorado State University in 1996. He began his clinical journey at the Anasazi Foundation in 1996 where he developed a passion for experiential therapies. His training encouraged him to blend research-based clinical models with genuine heart-centered leadership philosophies. In 2004 Merrill founded San Tan Counseling, where he served as owner and Clinical Director. At its height, the practice included 15 therapists across three offices. He returned to the Anasazi Foundation in 2017, providing clinical supervision and serving as Clinical Director.

Throughout his career, Merrill has specialized in adolescent and family therapy working with anxiety, depression, OCD, and trauma. His emphasis on family counseling reflects his understanding of the importance of the family system. Merrill is deeply passionate about helping young men become self-sufficient, contributing members of society. His work is grounded in the belief that every individual has the potential to overcome their fears and setbacks with the right guidance and support. His compassionate, confident nature builds trust quickly and reassures students that they are in the right place to receive the specialized treatment they need.

Outside of his professional life, Merrill loves serving his community and spending quality time with his family. He enjoys outdoor adventures, hiking, watching sunrises, dancing with his wife, and playing with his six children and five grandchildren.
