Embrace Change

“We can not be afraid of change.  You may feel very secure in the pond that you are in, but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean, a sea.” C. JoyBell C.

At Cascade Academy we constantly encourage our students to step outside of their comfort zone, when we do, we begin to create change.  Whether it is big or small, some people thrive on change, while for others change can be unsettling and met with resistance.  Change is hard because our brain is wired to do the same thing over and over, regardless of the activity being good or bad.  What we know for certain, change is inevitable, it is how we choose to look at and deal with change that matters.

“The secret of CHANGE is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” -Socrates

I have learned to embrace change; I honestly believe change is good for you.  Even when faced with difficult circumstances surrounded by change, it is important to look for the new opportunities waiting for you along the way.  Looking forward and staying in the present moment will help you turn a page in closing a chapter, while opening another chapter simultaneously.

Below are a few benefits of change:

Personal Growth

You grow and learn new things every time something changes.  You discover new insights about different aspects of your life.  You learn lessons even from changes that did not lead you to where you wanted to be.

Flexibility

Frequent changes make you easily adapt to new situations, new environments, and new people.  As a result, you do tend to accept unexpected shifts.

Life Values

From time-to-time changes make you re-evaluate your life and look at certain things from a different perspective.  Depending on what the change is, it may also reinforce your life values.

The Snowball effect

Often, we give up because we cannot accomplish the difficult task of making a huge and immediate change.  That is when small changes become extremely valuable.  One shift at a time, small changes will eventually lead you to the desired big one. Even when we are not prepared for life’s changes, we can embrace the benefits and be grateful for the time to grow.

When a teen struggles with OCD or anxiety, the whole family feels it, but not always equally. Parents naturally focus on the child who is in crisis. Therapy appointments, school meetings, and daily emotional triage can dominate family life.

Small Wins: Why Progress Looks Different in Anxiety Recovery

Navigating adolescent anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder can be challenging, especially when progress does not always look the way people expect. Many families enter treatment hoping for rapid relief, immediate confidence, or a return to “normal.” However, recovery from anxiety rarely happens in large, dramatic steps. More often, it is built through small, steady victories that may appear minor from the outside but represent major internal growth for the student.
